How to Get Involved

The success of our club's obligations to the total swimming community and SJL's membership depends on the support of family and volunteers. In an effort to distribute the obligation fairly throughout our membership, it is essential that each family commit a few hours of their time to helping our swim club.

Below you will find descriptions of volunteer opportunities. All volunteer roles described are essential to the smooth operation of our club.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The affairs of the club are managed by a volunteer board of directors which consists of no more than 12 members. If you are intereted in being a part of the Board of Directors please contact the current president to find out how you can take part.

Exective Board Directors
President Events
Vice-President Fundraising
Past President Team Manager
Secretary Officials
Treasurer Meet Manager
  Media

**All positions are 2 year commitments, with the exception to President, Vice-President and Past President which is a 3 year commitment

SWIM MEETS/TIME TRIALS
SJL hosts two swim meets per year: Fall Classic and Spring Splash. And at least 5 time trials. Hosting a swim meet requires at least 40 volunteers. Many of these volunteers are used as officials for example: timer, referee, starter, etc. Other volunteers are required for duties such as hospitality, set-up, announcers, program sales, results, etc.

In order to work as an official parents must take an officials clinic. This certification program is overseen by Swimming Canada and each level requires training and certification. Training is offered locally and in a classroom setting. The first level of training is level one, in order to be a timer.

Each family should have at least one person certified as an official and commit to officiating for at least one session per swim meet. If you are interested in getting certified please contact the current Officials person.

FUNDRAISING
The fundraising director oversees the coordination of fundraining opportunity, but will require others to help make it run. Some examples of annual fundraisers include Swim for Hope and FundScript. If you are interested in getting involved in any fundraising events please contact the current Fundraising Chair person.
